Urban Bushland and Wetlands

Environment House has been involved in conservation of our natural heritage since our inception. At a local level, we are currently involved with a number of Friends Groups along the Maylands and Bayswater sections of the Swan River including - Friends of Maylands Samphires (FOMS), Baigup Wetlands Interest Group and the Friends of Eric Singleton Bird Sanctuary.

The Friends of Maylands Samphires are helping to regenerate an area of samphires and saltbushes alongside the beautiful Swan River at Clarkson Reserve, Maylands. These tough salt tolerant plants help filter out pollutants and nutrients and provide a wonderful habitat for all kinds of birds.

No Houses in Wetlands was formed in July 2016 to try and (successfully!) halt the destruction of the Carter's Wetland in Bayswater.
